Using Clos Switches in Area Efficient Asynchronous SDM Routers

چکیده

Most of current asynchronous on-chip routers use the virtual channel flow control method which compromises throughput and latency. Instead of using virtual channels, an asynchronous spatial division multiplexing (SDM) router has been proposed recently. The major design overhead of an SDM router is the enlarged central switch which increases proportionally to the number of virtual circuits. Clos switches provide theoretically the optimal structure for high-radix switches. A novel 2-stage Clos switch is proposed and integrated into an SDM router. It is shown that the 2-stage Clos switch significantly reduce the area consumption of the central switch and the switch allocator. It is also found that SDM and the 2-stage Clos switch reduce power consumption.

Improving the Throughput of Asynchronous On-chip Networks with SDM

Asynchronous quasi-delay-insensitive (QDI) NoCs have several advantages over their clocked counterparts. Virtual channel (VC) is the most utilized flow control method in asynchronous routers but spatial division multiplexing (SDM) achieves better throughput performance for best effort traffic than VC. A novel asynchronous SDM router architecture is presented. Area and latency models are provide...

Routing of asynchronous Clos networks

Clos networks provide the theoretically optimal solution to build high-radix switches. Dynamically reconfiguring a three-stage Clos network is more difficult in asynchronous circuits than in synchronous circuits. This paper proposes a novel asynchronous dispatching (AD) algorithm for general three-stage Clos networks. It is compared with the classic synchronous concurrent round-robin dispatchin...

Static round-robin dispatching schemes for clos-network switches - High Performance Switching and Routing, 2002. Merging Optical and IP Technologies. Workshop on

AbstracfThe Clos-network is widely recognized as a scalable architecture for high-performance switches and routers. One of the key challenges in designing a Closnetwork switch for a high-speed environment is the design of the dispatchinglscheduling so as to be efficient for a wide range of traffic patterns, yet practical to be implemented in hardware. Based on the Static Round-Robin scheduling ...

Non-Blocking Routers Design Based on West First Routing Algorithm & MZI Switches for Photonic NoC

For the first time, the 4- and 5-port optical routers are designed by using the West First routing algorithm for use in optical network on chip. The use of the WF algorithm has made the designed routers to provide non-blocking routing in photonic network on chip. These routers not only are based on high speed Mach-Zehnder switches(Which have a higher bandwidth and more thermal tolerance than mi...
